Moving a Google Fiber Jack in an Austin Home: What to Plan

Table of Contents

Want your Google Fiber equipment in a different room? The first step is to identify which parts of the fiber path and fiber jack the provider owns, where the existing cable enters, and where the router and wired network should live. BCS has received requests from Austin-area customers to plan a better in-home equipment location and interior cabling route.

Questions before moving a fiber jack

  • Where is the current entry point and where should the equipment end up?
  • Is there an existing conduit or accessible route between those points?
  • Who is authorized to move or reconnect the provider’s equipment and fiber?
  • Will the new spot need power, Ethernet runs, Wi-Fi coverage, or a structured media enclosure?

We can review the interior pathway, install suitable cabling where appropriate, and coordinate around provider-owned equipment. The provider may need to approve or perform changes to its own fiber and jack. Planning this early can avoid placing the router where coverage and future wiring are difficult.
