Unlike a general overview camera, a plate camera is tuned for the plate itself. Many use infrared illumination and exposure settings designed to capture readable plates at night, even where there is little or no visible light. We plan the mounting height, angle, distance, vehicle speed, and lighting for the actual entry point, then test it with vehicles. Glare, weather, a dirty or obscured plate, or an unsuitable camera position can still prevent a reliable read.
An LPR camera can complement a wider parking-lot camera: one captures plate details while the other provides context around the vehicle.
