Retail phone systems, paging & wireless DECT in Austin

Need to reach a staff member across the sales floor or make an announcement without running from counter to counter? BCS installs retail phone systems with paging, wireless DECT handsets, and modern mobile apps. Staff can answer their business calls while moving through the store or away from it, using store Wi-Fi or cellular data on compatible systems.

Retail paging systems connected to your phone system

Use the phone system to make announcements through compatible overhead speakers, paging horns, or groups of phones. A team member can dial a paging extension to reach the sales floor, stockroom, receiving area, or selected zones when the platform and equipment support it. Paging can help staff request assistance at checkout, locate a team member, or share an operational update.

BCS can plan the speaker or horn locations, cabling, network connections, amplifier or paging adapter where needed, and the connection to your existing or new phone system. We test the audio level and the paging zones on site. See our paging horn installation services.

Wireless DECT phones: single-cell or multi-cell

  • Single-cell DECT: One base station can serve cordless handsets in a compact store or a defined work area. It may be the simpler fit when coverage from one base reaches the places staff actually work.
  • Multi-cell DECT: Multiple coordinated base stations can extend coverage across a larger store, stockroom, multiple floors, or a warehouse area. Compatible systems can support roaming and call handover as staff move between coverage areas.
  • Wireless handsets: Give managers and floor staff a business extension they can carry instead of tying them to a desk phone. We review compatible handsets, base units, charging locations, and the features your phone platform supports.
  • Site planning: Shelving, walls, coolers, and back-of-house areas affect radio coverage. We plan base locations and test calls in the actual store before calling the installation complete.

DECT coverage and handset capacity depend on the equipment and building. A multi-cell system is designed for wider coverage, but seamless handover requires a compatible platform and a properly planned deployment. We can help evaluate an existing system or install a new one.

Installation and support for the full retail phone system

We can configure extensions, call routing, greetings, voicemail, paging groups, and DECT handsets, then train staff on everyday use. BCS also troubleshoots poor audio, dropped calls, coverage gaps, and paging problems—even when another company installed the existing system, subject to access and compatibility.

Backup internet for retail phones and payments

Most modern retail phone systems use VoIP, so desk phones need a working internet connection to reach the phone service. Many point-of-sale and credit card systems also depend on connectivity. A second internet connection can help your store keep taking calls and processing payments if the primary service fails, depending on how your phone and payment systems are configured.

Some internet carriers provide a backup connection. BCS can also help you obtain service from a second carrier and configure a dual-WAN router or firewall to use one connection as primary and the other as backup. We can test the switchover with your phones and payment devices so your team knows what will keep working during an outage.

Mobile app: answer business calls on Wi-Fi or cellular

A compatible phone system app lets employees use a mobile phone as a business extension. They can answer and place calls while walking the sales floor, in the stockroom, or away from the store using the existing wireless network or cellular data. Supported platforms can present the business number instead of the employee’s personal number.

If the store’s internet or local network goes down, a configured cloud phone app can continue receiving business calls over the mobile carrier’s data network because the phone no longer depends on the store connection. The cloud service and cellular data must still be available. Some platforms also offer cellular voice routing or forwarding; we can review the options and test the outage plan with you.

We can set up the mobile app, call routing, and staff training, then test calls on Wi-Fi and cellular data. App behavior during a switch between networks depends on the selected phone platform.

Even if the store loses power, a configured cloud phone app may still receive business calls over cellular data as long as the smartphone has battery power, the mobile carrier has service, and the cloud phone platform is available. This gives staff another way to answer customers while the store phones and network equipment are offline. We can test the calling plan before an outage.

Some retailers also keep a compatible credit card processing app and mobile card reader on a smartphone as a backup when the main register or store internet is unavailable. Whether this works depends on your payment provider, device setup, cellular connection, and the phone’s charge. Check the arrangement with your processor and practice the backup procedure with staff.

Intermedia Unite for retail stores

Intermedia Unite is a cloud phone and communications platform that can help a retail team answer customer calls, coordinate staff, and handle pickup questions from the sales floor or back office. BCS can configure the call flow and train employees on the features that fit your store.

  • Mobile and desktop apps: Answer business calls using the store number while moving around the floor or working away from a desk.
  • Business SMS: With Company Messaging enabled on an eligible business number, assigned staff can confirm pickup details, respond to customer questions, or send appropriate promotional messages.
  • Hunt groups and simultaneous ringing: Route a call to available associates in a chosen order or ring the group together so customers are more likely to reach someone.
  • Auto attendant: Greet callers and direct them to store hours, a department, or the right team.
  • AI Call Recap and AI Assistant: Where enabled, summarize recorded calls for follow-up and help staff draft customer messages.

Availability varies by Intermedia plan, add-ons, and configuration. Company Messaging requires setup, and customer promotional texts should follow your consent practices. BCS can review which features belong in your rollout. See Intermedia’s retail solutions and our Intermedia Cloud Phone System services in Austin.

Retail paging and DECT FAQ

Can paging work with our current phone system?
Often, yes. We first check the system’s paging features and available integration methods, then recommend compatible speakers, horns, or adapters.

Should we use single-cell or multi-cell DECT?
It depends on the layout, materials, and where staff need to talk while moving. We review coverage and handset needs before choosing base stations.

Can our mobile phones receive business calls during a store internet outage?
With a compatible cloud phone service and configured app, staff can answer over working cellular data even when the store network is offline. We recommend testing this before an outage; availability depends on the service and mobile coverage. A charged smartphone with cellular service can also be useful during a store power outage, if your cloud phone provider remains available.

Can BCS set up a backup internet connection for our store?
Yes. We can review a carrier-provided backup or help set up two internet connections from different carriers, configure primary and backup failover, and test your phone and payment systems on both connections.
